  UNICEF reported a slight decrease in female genital mutilation in about half of the 29 countries covered in the report. In Egypt, where the practice is still widespread despite a 2007 fatwa from the Al-Azhar Supreme Council of Islamic Research in Cairo, only 34 percent of 15-to-19 year olds support it, compared to 64 percent in their mothers' generation (ages 45-49).
